Goodman Jazz Band Earns Superior Rating at Regional Festival

The Goodman Middle School Jazz Band showcased their exceptional musical talents at the Regional Jazz Festival held at Stadium High School, earning a Superior rating - the highest score bands can receive in Washington state. The ensemble performed before hundreds of attendees, including judges and fellow musicians from across the Commencement Bay region.

"I am most proud of their preparation and drive to do their best every day," says Band Director Chance Busey. This dedication extends beyond the music room - the Jazz Band maintains an impressive median GPA of 3.88, demonstrating their commitment to academic excellence alongside their musical achievements.

The students' versatility is particularly noteworthy. Each jazz band member also participates in either Intermediate or Advanced Band at Goodman, with over half playing different instruments in these ensembles. This musical flexibility showcases their broad talents and dedication to mastering multiple instruments.

The Regional Jazz Festival, organized by the Commencement Bay Music Education Association (COMBMEA), provides valuable opportunities for young musicians to perform and learn from their peers across the region. Looking ahead, Goodman's Advanced and Intermediate Bands will participate in the COMBMEA Regional Middle School Concert Band Festival during the first week of March (4th and 6th) at Mason Middle School in Tacoma, joining other Peninsula School District middle schools in this celebration of musical achievement.

Congratulations to our Jazz Band students on their outstanding performance and commitment to excellence both on and off the stage!
