Goodman Middle School offers several opportunities for academic support.
- Working Lunch is provided during the student lunch period. Students enrolled in math or reading support classes are eligible to receive additional assistance/ tutoring during their lunch time.
- Math Support Classes are placed in a student’s schedule when they do not meet standard on the state measurement of student progress. The class replaces an elective and focuses on pre and post teaching associated with the student’s regular math class. Some remediation is also offered.
- Language Arts Support Classes are placed in a student’s schedule when they do not meet standard on the state measurement of student progress. The class replaces an elective and is focused on specific strategies related to English Language Arts.
- FLEX Support Classes and Working FLEX are options for students who need extra support in math or language arts, or who are assigned to Working FLEX to complete unfinished work. FLEX Math and Language Arts Support courses change at the trimester so students showing improvement may move into an elective FLEX course at the end of a trimester. Working FLEX is assigned on a day-to-day basis and the student will report to their regular FLEX class before going to the Working FLEX teacher to complete their work. Once their work is complete, they will return to their regular FLEX course.
In addition to the programs listed above, there is also the Homework Help Line, where the Pierce County Library offers on-line, real-time homework help. Your child logs on and a tutor helps them through their questions. To find out how this works, click on the link below.
